How will you remember the Vince Young era in Cleveland?

On May 1, the Browns signed the former University of Texas star quarterback. On May 12, they cut him.

If you want to be very cynical, you might wonder if the signing of Young, which the Browns knew would be very high profile, was an elaborate draft smokescreen. Probably not, because no NFL team would believe the Browns were set at quarterback just because they signed Young, who couldn't get a job after being cut by the Packers at the end of preseason last year. But the timing of the signing, just before the Browns moved up to draft quarterback Johnny Manziel, was odd.
Most likely Young was just an insurance policy in case the Browns couldn't land a quarterback in the draft. Cleveland passed on a quarterback early in the draft, but then moved up to 22nd overall to take Manziel. It says something that the Browns cut Young but kept Tyler Thigpen, who was signed on the same day as Young.
The 12 days Young was with the Browns were the only time he's been on a NFL roster since the Packers cut him, and he was unemployed for almost a year before Green Bay signed him. Young's career started well, after Tennessee made him the third pick of the 2006 NFL draft. He was the NFL's offensive rookie of the year. But he never developed into a reliable quarterback, and his Titans career ended shortly after he threw his shoulder pads into the crowd in frustration and walked out on the team during coach Jeff Fisher's postgame speech in 2010. In 2011 he played seven ineffective games with the Eagles, and hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since. In 2012 he was cut by Buffalo at the end of the preseason. He was out of football until the Packers signed him after the preseason had already started last year. After he was cut, nobody signed him during the season despite many quarterback injuries around the league. That includes Green Bay, who had four different starting quarterbacks last season.
