However, the show, held June 4 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, hit a high humor note in particular with two skits manned by host Kristen Bell.
The first? Current darling Luke Bryan, plus hot duo Florida Georgia Line, put themselves in an elevator and offered up a brawl via survelliance-camera footage worthy of....okay, you know who they were imitating, right? Oh, the Knowles/Carter clan must be so proud right now!The only question is, what kind of wager did these guys enter in order to claim the coveted role of Solange in this skit?
"What happens in the elevator, stays in the elevator," Bryan drawled in a masterfully understated tone to Bell, after exiting. It's a hard knock life, indeed!
But that's not the only infamous "pop culture of 2014" moment the CMTs were able to poke fun at this year. Can you guess the second?
A bit later, Bell took the stage to announce that the CMTs were about to present a groundbreaking milestone -- country music's very first hologram. Of course, the audience was waiting with baited breath for a resurgence of, say, Hank Williams or George Jones. Instead, (the alive and healthy) "My Big Redneck Wedding" host Tom Arnold appeared, insisting that he was none other than (the alive and healthy) Jason Aldean, who watched bemusedly from his seat.With all due respect to Michael Jackson and the Billboard Music Awards, we're pretty sure Hank and George were probably posthumously relieved they were allowed to rest in peace. And, with all due respect to Aldean himself, we suspect fans were more scandalized by his first red-carpet appearance with new girlfriend Brittany Kerr. But, what happens on the CMT stage...
